Final Mix Temperature Calculator: Liquid & ICE

Liquid Temperature Mixer

🌡️ Liquid & Ice Mixer

Calculate the final temperature when mixing liquids and ice

Final Mixed Temperature
–°C
Total Volume: — L
💡 How it works: This calculator uses thermodynamics to model heat transfer between liquids and ice. It accounts for:
  • Specific heat capacities (water: 4.186 kJ/kg·°C, ice: 2.09 kJ/kg·°C)
  • Latent heat of fusion (334 kJ/kg to melt ice at 0°C)
  • Assumes no heat loss to the environment and complete thermal equilibrium

🔥 Example Calculations

Formula for mixing liquids (assuming no heat loss and same liquid type):
Tf = (V₁T₁ + V₂T₂ + V₃T₃ + … ) / (V₁ + V₂ + V₃ + …)

Example 1: Default Mixing (10 L + 10 L)

Mixing 10 liters of water at 20°C with 10 liters at 60°C:

Tf = (10×20 + 10×60) / (10 + 10) = 40°C

✅ Final Temperature = 40°C

Example 2: Ice Mixing with Water

Mixing 1 kg of ice (0°C) with 4 liters of water at 40°C.

Using energy balance:
miLf + mic(Tf−0) = mwc(40−Tf)
→ 334 + 4.18Tf = 668 − 16.72Tf
→ Tf = 16°C

✅ Final Temperature ≈ 16°C (all ice melts)

Example 3: Hot + Cold Water for Bathing

Mixing 20 L of water at 15°C with 4 L of boiling water at 100°C.

Tf = (20×15 + 4×100) / (20 + 4) = 29.2°C

✅ Bathing Water Temperature = 29°C

Example 4: Three Liquids Mixed

Mixing 5 L at 10°C, 3 L at 30°C, and 2 L at 60°C.

Tf = (5×10 + 3×30 + 2×60) / (5 + 3 + 2) = 26°C

✅ Final Temperature = 26°C
